Pot Noodle was launched in the United Kingdom in 1977 by
Golden Wonder. The
brand is currently owned by
Unilever. The
Pot Noodle website directs people to a Pot Noodle
Facebook page.
Pot Noodles contain 90g per pot. Smaller than Super Noodles, but slightly lager than the average packet nood. The noodles are made in the UK, in the
Pot Noodle Mines in Wales. Pot Noodles are
the most popular noods in the UK, with over a third of all sales. The market is deemed to be mainly male students, and the marketing is witty, edgy and self-depreciating, with a focus on the product being slightly dirty, with an adolescent male sexual humour. While Pot Noodles are the most expensive of the regular noods (usually around £1 per 90g pot), the convenience of the plastic cup, the market penetration (every corner shop and supermarket stocks Pot Noodle), and the highly successful marketing campaigns, means they continue to sell well against the competition. However, while the market for noods is expected to grow, Pot Noodle's share is being challenged by the cheap availability of Asian packet noods, and a shift in the consumer toward wanting better quality products and/or more mature marketing, as evidenced by the growth in posh noods, such as Kabuto Noodles.
